I have had several juicers, a Bullet, and grew up using a Vitamix. But my favorite kitchen gadget now is the Blendtec Classic with the Wildside jar. My shopping intention was to replace my aging Juiceman II. I would usually juice apples, carrots, and greens for a healthy snack break. However, I would throw away tons of fiber that was kicked out the back pulp container. It always seemed like a waste. I really did not want to keep storing the pulp for soups or bread products, or even gardening uses. Our old kitchen blender was rarely used and certainly a pain to clean, and don’t get me started on food processors. Whenever, I tried to make a smoothie, our old kitchen blender would choke, especially ice was added. The Bullet texture was not even that great, and also a pain to clean. The Vitamix my mom had, was literally a pain to clean. Many times I cut myself on that beast.
We are all getting fresh and frozen fruit, fresh kale and spinach, yogurt, carrots…without one complaint.
During my due diligence looking for juicers, I also started reading about the benefits of hi-speed blenders. About how to create delicious fruit smoothies, soups, almond milk, nut butter, flour, etc…with NO wasted fiber. Now that I am getting older, fiber is more important. We also have a child that has intestinal issues and the doctor recommended more fiber as a natural solution over medicine. So I took the plunge and decided on the Blendtec over the Vitamix for just price difference, plus it came with a extras like the nut butter jar, etc. It was not until using the Blentec at home did I start realizing how much I liked this over our old Vitamix. First, no sharp blades to cut my fingers on! Blendtec boost the revolution speed with blunt wings to pulverize food. This thing is a powerhouse. I was somewhat skeptical, so I tried blending wheat into flour and it came out silky smooth. Soup came out nice and hot, almond milk was tasty, and the fruit smoothies were creamy. After using the wide mouth Wildside jar, I never want to use a traditional smaller mouth, opaque jar. Cleaning is just a quick spray of the easy to clean lid and wide jar. So easy.
Here is the most important part to me. No one at home really liked the juicer that much. It was like a novelty to taste what I was juicing. Mostly the kids liked to watch, maybe would dare a sip and run a away. With my fruit smoothies, my kids ask me for them almost every day…they call it “Daddy’s ice cream shake”. Even my picky wife will drink them…that is saying a lot since my cooking is not near her level. My family’s fiber intake has gone way up. We are all getting fresh and frozen fruit, fresh kale and spinach, yogurt, carrots…without one complaint. More like “Yeah… Ice Cream Shake! I want some!”. I did try some green smoothies, but you are better off sticking with mainly fruit, and just a handful of greens. Kale works the best for our family since you can’t really taste or see it. Use some frozen fruit, rather than ice for a fuller taste.
Try switching out fruits for variety, but here is my family’s favorite smoothie. All good, nothing wasted.
